This Privacy Policy describes how Rootsoft ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application Khatma / ختمة القرآن (the "App") — a free Quran reading companion with prayer times, Qibla direction, azkar, sebha, radio, and related features. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

In short: We use your account details (such as email or phone) for authentication via Firebase. Location is used only while the app is open for prayer times and Qibla. Background audio is used so Quran and radio can keep playing when the screen is locked. Crash data may go to Sentry. We do not sell your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account and Profile Information

To create and use an account, we may collect personally identifiable information, including:

Email address
Mobile number and country code
Display name and reading progress related to your khatma / weekly program

This information is stored on Google Cloud Firebase and is used to authenticate you and provide App features (profile, progress, leaderboards where applicable). Guest mode may use a locally generated identifier without a full account.

1.2 Location Data (When In Use)

With your permission, the App accesses your device location only while you are using the App to:

Calculate prayer times for your geographic area
Determine and display the Qibla direction

We do not track your location in the background for advertising or analytics. You can deny location permission; prayer times may then rely on a manual city/country selection or a default location.

1.3 Motion / Compass Sensors

The App may use the device motion and magnetometer (compass) sensors to orient the Qibla indicator on screen. This data is processed on your device for that feature and is not used to track you elsewhere.

1.4 Audio and Background Playback

The App plays Quran audio and Islamic radio streams. With iOS background audio capability enabled, playback can continue when the App is in the background or the screen is locked. The App does not record microphone audio for this purpose.

1.5 Local Device Storage

The App stores preferences and content caches on your device (for example reading settings, bookmarks, sebha/azkar preferences, and last reading position) using local storage such as SharedPreferences / UserDefaults. Much of this stays on your device unless synced as part of your signed-in profile features.

1.6 Automatically Collected Technical Information

When an error occurs, we may collect technical data through Sentry (or similar), which can include:

Device type, OS version, and app version
IP address and approximate network information
Crash logs, stack traces, and timestamps
App configuration relevant to diagnosing the error

1.7 Information We Do NOT Collect

Payment card or banking details (the App is free)
Your contacts, photos, or SMS content
Precise continuous background location tracking
Microphone recordings for radio/Quran playback

2. How We Use Your Information

Authentication and accounts: Sign-in, profile, and access to App features
Core features: Quran reading progress, communal/shared khatma, weekly program, azkar, sebha, prayer times, and Qibla
Media: Streaming Quran audio and radio, including background playback
Reliability: Diagnose crashes and improve stability via error reporting
Communication: Respond to support requests you send us

3. Data Storage and Third-Party Services

3.1 Firebase (Google)

Authentication and cloud data are provided by Google Firebase. Google’s privacy practices apply to that processing: https://policies.google.com/privacy and https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

3.2 Google Play Services / Apple platforms

The App may use platform services (for example Google Play Services on Android, Apple frameworks on iOS) that process data under their own policies.

3.3 Sentry

Crash and error reports may be sent to Sentry. See https://sentry.io/privacy/.

4. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help operate the App (such as Firebase and Sentry), and only as needed to provide those services, or when required by law.

5. Data Security

We strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Account Deletion

If the App provides an in-app account deletion flow, you may use it to request removal of your account data. You may also contact us at the email below to request account deletion. Some anonymized or legally retained records may remain where required.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Permissions: You can revoke location (and other) permissions in system settings
Account: You may update or request deletion of account data as described above
Local data: Uninstalling the App removes local caches and preferences on the device

9. International Transfers

Your information may be processed on servers operated by our providers (including Google and Sentry) in various countries. By using the App, you understand that such transfers may occur as needed to provide the Service.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date. Please review this page periodically.
